Qumran and the Days of Elijah: CHAPTER 2, Priesthood History
A historical overview of the priesthood of true and faithful Israel from the priesthood's inception through Aaron, the brother of Moses, concluding with the coming of the One True King and priest, Yeshua the Messiah.
A lot of history has come and gone, and we must understand it if we want to associate with the Days of Elijah and the Messianic Hope, a faithful chosen generation of the body of the Messiah. In this program - Chapter Two, we will examine where the Sadducees came from. We will also study the all-important link between the man "John the Baptist" and the biblical Priest Tzadok (Zadok) HaCohen and his legitimate priestly authority as King David's Righteous Priest descended from the line of Aaron.
We'll look at WHY the father of John the Baptist was instructed to name his son "John." We will also follow the path of a group of Jewish religious nationalists in the generation of the Maccabees (known for the famous Jewish Chanukah story) and the Hasmonians under Shimon, who merged the King/Priest office authority into one. Out of that religious soil in Israel, a significant conflict developed between the legitimate biblical priests of Aaron's bloodline and a large group of lay religious leaders from the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Levi. It came to be a heated war of words and culture between the Qumran Zadokite Priests and the new authority of Judah in a Jerusalem Temple priesthood of scribes, teachers, and judges. It was a significant battle of authority between Light and Darkness, Good and Evil.
The Temple authorities (as they came to be called) firmly established their authority through acts of violence. Later, they became a formidable religious force to be reckoned with during the mid to late second temple period. They came to be called "Pharisees" and "Sadducees." Today, they are called the Rabbis of Talmudic Judaism.
