NOTE: ***This is a five to six hour hike throughout the nature reserve. Only those physically fit to handle such a hike should register!

Theme:Colliding ideas in Torah Law and Roman Philosophy: Gamla's Jewish Zealots versus Vespasian's Roman Legionnaires

Logistics:

  • Time: 06:30 - 17:30 (6:30am to 5:30pm)
  • Starting Location: Jaffa Gate Parking Complex, Jerusalem
  • Return Location: Jaffa Gate Parking Complex, Jerusalem
  • Route and Transportation: Driving north on Highway 90 to the Tiberius Tzemach Junction and then north to the Golan.
  • Food: Bring money for lunch and snacks. There are a few different eating options available to and from Gamla.
  • Requirements: Bible, hat, water (3 liters), good walking or hiking shoes, small backpack, money for snacks and food (details on registration).
  • Transportation: your own rental car or private taxi

Research Topics and Areas of Study:

  • - Philosophical question: is death preferable to slavery? Examples: Gamla, Masada, Yodfat
  • - Gamla was one of only three places in all Israel during the Roman occupation when three (3) legions descended upon a town and fought against the Jews. What was the Roman Legion? How well trained were they? What was their philosophy about life and death?
