Logistics:

  • Time: 07:30 - 16:30 (7:30am to 4:30pm)
  • Starting Location: Jaffa Gate Parking Complex, Jerusalem
  • Return Location: Jaffa Gate Parking Complex, Jerusalem
  • Route and Transportation: Driving north on Highway 60
  • ood: Bring money for lunch and snacks. There are a few different eating options available in the area.
  • Requirements: Bible, hat, water, good walking or hiking shoes, small backpack, money for snacks and food (details on registration).

Research Topics and Areas of Study:

  • Psagot:
  • - A stop at the overlook into northern Jerusalem with a direct view of modern-day Ramala and talk about the Arab/Israeli conflict in regards to Ramallah and the territories.
  • - A stop at the overlook into ancient biblical Mitzpeh (according to some scholars, whereas Nebi Samuel is an opinion held to by other scholars).
  • Beit El:
  • - A study in the biblical narrative of Genesis 28 - Ya'acov's vision of the ladder or stairway to heaven.
  • - The scattering and the re-gathering of the exile of Israel, using the following references: Genesis 12:8; 13:3; 28:10-12; 1 Kings 12:29; Judges 21:19
  • - Israel's conquests of the Land as recorded in Joshua 8:1-35 and the historical importance of Beth El (Beit El) to the generations of Israelites that followed, right up until this very day in dealing with its politics, archaeology, and religious Torah observant.
  • Shilo:
  • - The division of the Land of Israel as recorded in Joshua 18. The Land Lottery takes place here in Shilo
  • - The religious capital of all Israel for 369 years, when the tabernacle of all Israel stood here on the site that we will physically walk to and see.
  • - The biblical narrative of Hannah's prayer and the story of Samuel in his early years, growing up at the tabernacle of Shilo (1 Samuel chapters 1 - 3)
  • - Lessons from the family of Eli, the Priest of the Tabernacle (1 Samuel chapters 1-4).
  • - A prophet of Shilo is singled out and told to announce the impending split in the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah. His name was Achiya (1 Kings 11 and 14).
  • - From a bloodbath to blessing: the dancing virgins of Shilo's vineyards (Joshua 21).
  • Har Grizim:
  • - Mount Gerizim (Grizim) of Samaria (John 4:5; 19-20). Examinations into the source texts that explain the reason why the Gerizim temple was built (Josephus Antiquities 5.69; 11.310; 12.257; Wars 3.307). We'll have a closer look at the remains of that temple, today.
  • - We'll study the intent of the Torah commandments that were given to all Israel in the shadow of Mount Gerizim in Deuteronomy Chapter 11.
  • - We'll study John Chapter 4 and the story of the woman who meets Yeshua at the well of Sychar.
  • - We'll study the story of the division of the two houses of Israel, which began in the shadow of Mount Gerizim at 1 Kings 12.
