Research Topics and Areas of Study:
- Har HaKfitzah ("Jumping Mountain") Nazareth Overlook (Luke 4:16-30)
- - Was the real Nazareth of the Gospel narratives located below us at the present location of the Old City? We'll examine the pros and cons of the subject.
- Nazereth Village:
- Come meet the people and experience first-century hospitality in a setting that takes you back into time; to the days of Yeshua. Step through a stone doorway into the dim interior, and smell the smoke from the oil lamps. You will begin to imagine life in another time, when Yeshua lived in a village called Nazareth (Matthew 2:23). In the courtyard peer into the cistern, a vital part of any household. Hand-hewn caves store wheat and other supplies. Here, you will experience what an ancient Galilean village would have likely been.
- The Horns of Hattin:
- We'll hike up the Horns of Hattin and re-enact the teaching of Yeshua's "Sermon on the Mount" likely given at this location (Matthew 5 and 6, referring to this site as "the mount"). Also, we will address the later historical and definitive battle between the Crusaders and Saladin on July 4, 1187 - in a battle that totally changed the course of history for the next one-thousand years in Eretz Israel, between the Christians and the Muslims.
- Capernaum:
- - Kfar Nahum (Capernaum - Matthew 4:13) and the likely foundation for the synagogue where Yeshua taught. Also, the home of Kefa's (Peter's) Mother-in-Law (Mark 1:30 and Matthew 8:13)
- Gamla (not a hike; rather, an overview study from the Gamla lookout):
- - Gamla: its discovery in 1967 under the auspices of archaeologist Shemaryah Gutman. How his team found Gamla using the texts of Josephus.
- - Gamla was one of only three places in all Israel during the Roman occupation when three (3) legions descended upon a town and fought against the Jews. What was the Roman Legion? How well trained were they? What was their philosophy about life and death?
- - Study: synagogues in the Second-Temple Period.
